What is CRM integration?

CRM integration is the acronym for Customer Relationship Management Integration. It's when you connect a customer relationship management (CRM) system with other third-party systems within your company, allowing you to integrate and share your customer data between the two. This can be as simple as linking a CRM system with emails, calendar or a company website feature, or as complex as linking a CRM with multiple, more complex systems, such as financial or resource planning software. Most CRM integrations require APIs (application programming interfaces) and iPaaS (integration platform as a service) to work, as they facilitate integration and data exchange between systems.

Although the term CRM refers to all approaches that use data to build, enhance and manage customer relationships, it is most often used to describe software or technology that helps companies better manage interactions with their current and potential customers in a centralized location.

Why CRM integration?

CRM integration is designed to help companies streamline and better manage their interactions with current and potential customers. With good CRM integration, data from all systems must be collected, stored, organized and analyzed with immediate effect. By collecting and storing this important information - such as customer data, past interactions and purchase records - in a centralized, streamlined location, companies should benefit from reduced workloads, improved customer awareness and communication, increased customer interaction and retention rates, improved analytics and reporting, and increased sales. In short, CRM users should benefit from a 360-degree view of the customer in one place.

As mentioned above, a CRM system reaches its full potential when it connects with other applications and software (as in CRM integration) within your company. In addition to email and calendar integration, some examples of CRM integration with your company's software are social networking, team communication, forms and data collection, call software, customer success, live chat, proposal and document integrations, and events.

While it's tempting to install all available integrations, make sure you focus on what's important. Choose CRM integrations that allow you to focus on (and streamline) your day-to-day use cases. In other words, choose CRM integrations that help you do what you usually do, but faster and better.

CRM is not just for your sales team

CRM isn't just for sales, either. Your accounting, management, customer service and marketing teams will all benefit from CRM integration. Your marketing team, for example, can use this better understanding of customers and communication to conduct customer-specific (and account-based) marketing campaigns. Your resourcing team, on the other hand, can see your budget used more efficiently across the board. The uses and benefits of a CRM are almost endless.
